Coming off a tough 20-point loss to Findlay Prep, Arizona’s top ranked team, Corona del Sol, rebounded with a big win against faced Hamilton, ranking within the top-five in the state.

Entering the game at 13-1, Corona del Sol placed 18th in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings.  Hamilton had won all 13 of its prior games and looked to assert themselves against the Aztecs, two-time defending state champions.

The, what appeared to be evenly matched, game quickly swayed in Corona’s favor after the Aztecs finished the first quarter off with a 17-0 run.  Freshmen guard Alex Barcello led the run with 8 of his 13 points after coming off the bench.

The Aztecs leading scorer of the night was Casey Benson, who started with 8 of Corona del Sol’s first 10 points and never let off the gas.  By the final whistle, the Aztecs took a 35-point victory at 67-32.

Corona’s most impressive performance was its defense.  Going into the game, Hamilton’s lowest scoring performance was 49 points, but Corona held the Huskies to 17 points lower that.  In fact, Hamilton only managed 1 point in the fourth quarter.

With things looking to be back on track, Corona del Sol faces Mesquite on January 9 away.

Key Players:

Casey Benson- 23 points

Alex Barcello- 13 points
